Artist Biography

Roderick Hidalgo is a mixed-media artist celebrated for his ability to craft works that inspire curiosity and reimagine perspectives. Driven by a passion for texture, light, and color, Hidalgo’s art bridges elegance and intrigue, often incorporating transparent dimensional sculptures, playful themes, and opulent features. His tactile creations evoke a sense of timelessness, blending the traditions of master craftsmanship with contemporary innovation.

Born in 1988 in the United States, Hidalgo has shown and sold his work internationally, establishing a global reputation. Over the past decade, he has honed a remarkable range of skills across multiple disciplines, including encaustic painting, metalwork, woodworking, sculpture, resin casting, and traditional painting. His works have been exhibited in prestigious venues such as the Sunshine Contemporary Art Museum in Beijing, China, and Miami Art Basel in the United States.

Hidalgo’s artistic journey is informed by his deep appreciation for art history and design. Drawing inspiration from architecture, jewelry design, fashion, and natural beauty, he creates pieces often described as “gems to adorn the walls of interior spaces.” His philosophy emphasizes balance, harmony, and the transformative power of aesthetics. He believes that the environments we inhabit profoundly shape our lives and aims to craft art that enhances the human experience while honoring timeless techniques.

In 2019, Hidalgo received the Gretchen Cummins Hupfel "Visionary" Award from The Delaware Contemporary, recognizing his innovation and dedication to contemporary art. His works, distinguished by bold compositions and a masterful interplay of materials, have been featured in prominent collections, including the Sallie Mae Collection, Bay Health Hospital, and the Chris Strumfeld Youth Center in Delaware.

Currently, Hidalgo is working on sculptures commissioned for a chain of libraries in the tri-state area, as well as bespoke projects for NYC designers and galleries. His practice is fueled by a combination of disciplined craftsmanship and exploratory experimentation, ensuring each piece resonates as both an artistic achievement and a meaningful artifact.
